eOpinion (formerly Data Hooks) was founded in 2016 as a side hustle by Chris Hutchings as way to use data-driven insights to enhance the content marketing efforts at the company where he worked and budgets were tight.
Initially a marketing service, Chris would often give away surveys to friends in-house at other companies and at small agencies where budgets were also tight.
By streamlining the surveys to a question limit he found that completion and engagement rates were staggeringly higher than previous surveys he had run with traditional survey companies.
eOpinion was starting to take shape and it made sense to tweak things a little so the surveys could be used across different areas than just digital PR.
The platform evolved in to an engagement tool allowing businesses to hear from and engage with their customers.
The relationship between customer and business became a two way relationship rather than having a customer who only heard from a business when they were being sold to.
